Sex Offenders aren't just popular with two faced scammers or people taking photo ops with racists.   Richard Gage roped a guy called DiNatale into pushing his non profit AETruther scam, and either is so far gone he really doesn't see the problem  or believes even the worst publicity is good publicity.

So it's not too much of a shock Ventura doesn't see interviewing a man strongly suspected of sexual predation in the skeptic community as a problem.

What is slightly more surprising is a well known "skeptic" blog run by two fools found it newsworthy:

'Fools' might sound harsh, but they are either fools or scammers and opportunists if their activities over the years are any indication.  They stopped credible debunking ages ago,  really by early-mid 2007.  There after the blog was little more than copy pasta of other, credible debunkers, with the main course being an amplifier  for "truther" gossip.

The latest blog post is much in the same vein though not as irresponsible as some. JamesB logs in to write it, linking to a video:

Only a bit on 9/11, but skeptic Michael Shermer and conspiracy theorist extraordinaire Jesse Ventura have what actually is a relatively amiable conversation.

Why this is even slightly newsworthy for skeptics is baffling to me.  As it was blogged 3 days after the interview, it clearly wasn't topical or urgent to anyone.  A search of  "Jesse Ventura and Michael Shermer"
show literally no English language blog besides SLC covered it, not even the usual conspiracy outlets(at least not with that title):

 And why is Shermer still relevant anyway? On Skeptics forum itself are threads detailing Shermer's suspicious relationship with conartist David Cole-stien, as well as the rape allegations.

What's even more baffling is the SLC bloggers had no problem calling out DiNatalie when  cjnewson pointed out Gage/AETruth's involvement with a sex predator.  They even blogged it.  But Shermer gets a pass.

Hmmm.

It might be because both DiNatale and Badillo were legally convicted as opposed to being convicted in the court of public opinion, which admittedly is very YMMV.  In Shermer's case one could say, well, he's not convicted so he's innocent.  But reading the history this is very unlikely.   Normal, non predatory people do not have a history going back years of predatory behavior.   So even if I don't expect SLC to denounce Shermer, I do expect ethical, responsible people to not give Shermer a platform or publicity.

And while the rape accusations may not be proved in court, Shermer's overly friendly association with Holocaust Denier David Cole is unquestionable thanks to photographic evidence.  Shermer has yet to explain their chumminess TTBOMK.

[This is all aside from another serious issue regarding the SLC blog:  like Mr. Lazo they log into their blog regularly, so, like Mr. Lazo, they have no reason not to clean their blog up.]

Whatever the SLC fools intentions claim to be, giving either Shermer or Ventura publicity isn't helping anyone...except the conspiracy industry they both profit from.

So, unless SLC has a dog in that race, it's an odd choice for an alleged debunking blog. At this point there is no point to discussing trutherism except to expose it--and report its frontmen--as a scam.

Let's Air The Laundry

I haven't covered as much as I planned this year, but you know, real life.
 happens.    Let's take some time out for some random observations and corrections to our collective perceptions.

1.Self proclaimed "debunker" falls for Gamergate con

First up, I'll indulge a spot of pointing and laughing at one of the owners of Screw Loose Change who was spreading gamergate propaganda at JREF.  Either he's a gullible tool, or he's a secret supporter.  For those lucky few who don't know the clusterfuck that is gamergate, here's a relatively short summary.  Basically gamergate is another fringe political front.  But Brainster is very interested in the debunked sex for review angle:

As for the death threats, this post claims that it is most likely that Anita faked them. Ten tweets in 3 minutes, the last of which Anita screen captured 12 seconds after it was posted.

BTW, I find the story about Zoe Quinn sleeping around to get positive reviews for her games more interesting.

 Uh huh.  About that story:

 ...there is no evidence she "slept around for positive reviews." And to be honest I couldn't find anything more boring than someone else's sex life. Why are you interested in who someone else sleeps with?

 But the reply to the "Anita faked it" angle Brainster is pushing is the best:

Twitter does this thing where if somebody puts your Twitter name in their post, you get notified about it immediately. It doesn't strike me as unusual at all that that any Twitter user would be disturbed by the nature of the first few initial tweets and click the name to see the rest, and quickly screenshot such material before it can be erased. If the person who started the account began tweeting while Sarkeesian was logged into Twitter, she would've seen the tweets immediately. No skullduggery or Truthy conspiracism necessary.

 That must have hurt, the owner of a blog mocking the "truth" movement being told by a fellow skeptic to stop being a Gamergate "truther".  Priceless.

Gay has recounted in several places, without naming names, a story that while being introduced to Michael Shermer at Dragon*Con in 2008, he made a drunken lunge at her breasts instead of shaking her hand. DJ Grothe has related this story a number of times to a number of people, indicating that he had intervened to stop the public groping from happening.

May 2010 Ashley Miller
At a dinner event she attended featuring PZ Myers, Ashley encounters Michael Shermer, who allegedly spoke with her for several minutes while massaging his genitals through his jeans. She describes the incident here.

May 23rd, 2012 pseudonymous commenter Miriamne
A comment left at Friendly Atheist names Michael Shermer as allegedly having harassed her, and “trying to sleep with a new young woman every TAM”.

Disgusting doesn't begin to cover it.  While one is tempted to blame Randi and he is ultimately responsible for what happens in his organization, it speaks well of him or at least of his pragmatism, that he's fired  DJ Grothe formerly in charge of the JREF forums(and apparently an enabler of Shermer) and retaken the helm personally.  

Nonetheless, it's a bit of a mystery why it too so long.  I suspect Randi is very conservative, and while intelligent, it makes him susceptible to a certain type of charmer.   While leftists can be duped by charm and out right lies, people heavily investing in the authoritarian right are the experts at living in DeNile, especially when that person appears to be a vocal fan and supporter.

As if that wasn't bad enough, Shermer has a questionable history with David Cole.

Mr. Cole-stien , adept conartist and Nazi apologist that he is, claims to have known Shermer since 1993 and has a photo to prove it:

Shermy got wind of the fact that I include quite a few pages of conversations that I recorded with him in 1994 – conversations in which he admits to defaming me and lying about my work regarding Holocaust revisionism. So, what did “Mr. Freethinker” do? How did “America’s leading skeptic and defender of free inquiry” respond?
He got his lawyers to serve my publisher with a demand to “refrain from publishing or distributing” my book! This is a man who slams religious institutions for stifling free inquiry and suppressing facts. And he wants to ban a book.
That’s some great skepticizin’ there, Mikey.

 Given Holocaust Deniers don't actually have facts, it's unlikely Shermer was trying to suppress anything that supports the fraud of Holocaust denial.  Much more likely Shermer, already under fire from rape allegations, was in damage control mode, trying to hide the rest of the skeletons in his closet.  At the very least, showing Shermer presented himself to the public in a false light.  For instance, no where in this Donahue show dated 1994 [Disclaimer:video uploader interjects commentary showing they have sympathy with Holocaust "revisionism".  Am seeking a better copy of this show] does Shermer admits he knows Cole previously, apart from a couple of phone calls.  Watching the clip, Donahue wonder's why Shermer is going in where other Jewish groups prefer not to tread.  But if one looks at Shermer/Cole banter and Shermer's pugging his Skeptic magazine, a reason presents itself:  this was great publicity for Shermer's magazine and gave him instant credibility among readers.  Remember this was before the Internet.

 In light of  Cole's exposure as a conartist, and Shermer's association with Cole, one has to wonder exactly how much of the truther/debunker/holocaust denial/forum trolling was a deliberate confidence game using JREF forums as a platform as an outpost of the cultural wars.  Remember, in the beginning the 911 truth con was pitched to the Left and the loudest debunkers come from the Right.

Last Notes on Shermer's friend Cole:
- Earlier clip from show, Cole reiterates, in spite of his Jewish background, that he's an Atheist. [Disclaimer:video uploader interjects commentary showing they have sympathy with Holocaust "revisionism".  Am seeking a better copy of this show]

 - The entire claim pushed by Nazi apologists that Cole was driven into hiding by Jews is skewed:  it wasn't Jews or "Zionists", but a man called Irv Rubin who represented a fringe rightwing extremist group.  A brief reading of Wikipedia will show Rubin in no way represents the actions of mainstream Jews or persons who object to anti-Semitism.

A note about fellow Donahue TV participant Bradley Smith from the ADL:

 Though he often tries to present himself as a free speech activist, Bradley Smith has functioned as a propagandist for the Holocaust denial movement since 1983. He has achieved his greatest notoriety as the director of the Committee for Open Debate on the Holocaust, whose mission is to disseminate Holocaust denial to students on college campuses. In more recent lectures promoting his book, Break His Bones, Smith has sought to refocus his message on the free speech issue and to “decriminalize Holocaust history.” Privately, he admits that his aim continues to be promoting “revisionism” and anti-Israel propaganda.

3. Last in the Laundry airing is Mia Dolan.


The "Mia Dolan" I know was responsible for exposing "gretavo" as Gustavo Espada, a member of Fetzer's Scholars group(a fact Espada has never admitted) in comments at the Daily Kos, where 911blogger users like "Cassiea" and "Vesa" were claiming to spread the truth.  This was in 2006, but I never knew about it until years later, unfortunately.  It would have been much easier to see it was all a scam by early 2007 if I had.

Sadly, Mia Dolan, however useful they've been confirming the Scholars/911blogger/Wtvdemolition scam, has chosen the screen name of a woman who claims to be a psychic:

Mia Dolan is an Isle of Sheppey-born best-selling author^{[citation needed]} and self-proclaimed psychic based in the United Kingdom. She writes and teaches at her own psychic school.^[1]

 While I personally know people who are "psychic readers"- basically talented empathic cold readers who attribute their skills to intuition and/or spirit  guides, the money they "make" is a negligible gratuity and no different from visiting a therapist or priest.
 
When people are making thousands of dollars off so called psychic powers, that's a game changer.  Dolan has been mentioned on James Randi's forum.

The "Mia" at Dailykos appears to be in Minnesotta, at least according to their blog, Minnesota DFL Caucus Reminder (with Poll).

Nonetheless, their choice of screen name should make one cautious about where exactly they're coming.

Occupy Retospective at Lady Liberty Lamp, Ron Paul and General Lunacy

With a couple amusing jabs at the Ron Paul political machine.

A couple of friends of mine got heavy into Occupy, one with an unfortunate fixation on Ron Paul, no matter how much evidence of Paul's racist associations leaked out.    It was like a perverse version of voting for the lesser evil strategy, except that Ron Paul was actually the greater evil. 

Occupy itself was fraught with issues before the scammers and loons Lady Liberty analyses jumped on the bandwagon, but this doesn't take away from LLL excellent points.  

One observation from the getgo is most of the infiltration is by political groups, conartists, or corporate opportunists from both camps.  Very little directly by the "gubmint", though of course this is happening, but in a much more subtle way.

Popular activist movements attract all manner of scavengers and hangers-on, most of which seek to capitalize on the success of the more popular group to compensate for the fact that the majority of society regards them as a bunch of babbling kooks. The Occupy Movement is no different, with everyone from The American Spectator to Zeitgeist seeing the mass throng of people as easy pickings by which to enlarge their subscriber base and coffers. Some of these groups, however, see the Occupy Movement as a means to seek legitimacy for their own morally reprehensible causes, whether that takes the form of racism, fraud or selling out activists to the feds.
Here then, is a list of some of the most odious and dangerous groups and individuals currently sucking off the teat of the Occupy Movement. These people shouldn’t be considered part of the broader Occupy Movement, no matter what sort of “authority” they claim.

Historian David Irving and many others who only search for truth you will know that the we're in the "violently opposed" stage of Holocaust discussion. Prof. Tony Martin is another example of someone, who merely questioned the Jewish role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade (and no more so than any other European race), and was attacked & threatened mercilessly.

By the way, I will be straight up and not try to dance around it. It is your classic portrayal of Ron as a crazy racist old coot.. that classic talking point that requires no independent thought or acknowledgement of a brilliant man is what gives you away as an infiltrator yourself. What ideas are those? That 95% of all black males in DC are criminals? That global warming is a myth? That evolution doesn’t exist? That the economy needs to be placed squarely in the hands of precious metals speculators? That labor unions have no right to exist? That abortion should be criminalized? That governmental regulation of private industry is a flawed idea? That banks and capitalism need to exist in an environment unhindered and unfettered by pesky regulations? Ron Paul’s only contribution is that his rhetoric variously demands either the auditing or abolition of the federal reserve– but there is no plan after that. We’ve always had a sincere position on Ron Paul: he’s a racist, theocratic old man who– apart from being profoundly anti-labor– is an advocate of the highest degree for the privileges of the ultra-rich to live without having to contribute anything to the communities in which they live.
And what about this term you threw in at the end– “intellectual humility?” Are you using this term because you mean to imply we are violating Mill’s credo that we are not humble about what we don’t know– that we are arrogant and close-minded? Or instead do you mean that we should humble ourselves before your sacred cows because we might offend you? Instead of readily dismissing criticisms of Paul for whatever reason, perhaps the entire Ron Paul movement needs to practice some intellectual humility of its own. I am sick and tired of seeing reams of denials and apologetics about Ron Paul’s racism in his own paper from members of his movement– when people are presented with incontrovertible statements (and even video footage, with regards to the evolution statement) from people about their political opinions, they generally understand those statements are those of the person making them. The overwhelming, rote, scripted chorus from the Ron Paul movement is “he didn’t really say that” or “he didn’t really mean that.” Who’s practicing “intellectual humility” now?

Well, that's just fine and dandy. Users of wtcdemolition are not welcome here anymore. Most of them haven't made a positive contribution to the site in a solid year anyhow.

I rebutted Cole's thesis in a thread created at Truthaction, where I graphically proved not only did the Holocaust happen, but anyone saying otherwise has to be pushing a Nazi/racist agenda.  Yet somehow I missed that David Cole had made the news last year, scamming the Republican Party.

Anyone pushing Holocaust denial is part of an racist agenda.  Historically the right has been more receptive to this message.  This is the reason Ron Paul registered as Republican, not Democrat.   The far radical right in particular likes to use the mainstream "reasonable" right(for a certain value of reason) as a base to launch from.  
It's hard to believe Republicans don't know this.  Yes, racists exist on the left; in times past it was the Democratic party that supported Jim Crow, etc.  But today racists drift through the left, they don't set up shop.

All the Party on the Right animals should expect Cole has been feeding the racist right information about them for...oh,  about 15 years.

Sucks, don't it?  Anyone can be conned.

Remember David Cole? He was a young Jewish man who became famous for daring to question the official 'holocaust' story in the 1990s. He launched his public notoriety by releasing a video of his trip to Auschwitz, in which he interviewed several employees and filmed his tour of the alleged gas chambers. During his trip he wore his Yarmulke to gain the confidence of his subjects, but in reality Cole was an athiest. The video, available on youtube, has been described as the most effective debunking of the 'holohoax' six-million-gassed myth. Cole also appeared on a number of popular TV talk shows in the 1990's as well, including Donahue, Montel Williams, and the Morton Downey Jr. Show. Many of these interviews and TV appearances are still available on youtube. In 1998, however, David Cole was threatened and disappeared from the public eye forever, never to be seen again. The fact that Cole was purportedly forced underground out of fear for his life was used by some as an ugly illustration of Jewish power and vindictiveness. 

"Alleged gas chambers".  Holocaust in scare quotes.  "Jewish power and vindictiveness".  Uh huh.  Can you be anymore obvious?

The author goes on to hassle Cole's victims on Twitter, yielding this gem:

 I have tweeted to all of the aforementioned, asking them "The Guardian is reporting that you attended events with notorious Holocaust Revisionist David Cole (Stein). Any comments?" So far only comedian Stephen Kruiser has replied. Kruiser, described on his twitter page as having "Entertained US troops all over the world," initially cussed at me, but then explained that he disliked Stein because Stein was "a vindictive, drunk attention whore" who's "almost incapable of telling the truth."

Of course anyone who'd seen his Holocaust "revisionism" would know that already.

So Cole can see reality when he wants to.  Making me personally believe his Holocaust Denial "research" is part of a political agenda.

Honestly I'm surprised Cole isn't a Paulbot; his attitude, outlook and agenda is right up the reactionary racist Libertarian agenda.  Making me wonder who his pals are.

Changing his name and going on with his life would be one thing.

But he changed his name and infiltrated the Hollywood conservative scene.

No one  does that for kicks.   Whatever he was up to, he didn't do it by himself.  Even the guardian notes:
